And Pseudo returns home

After ten days at the vet recovering from his dental we took Pseudo back yesterday, he ran around meowing saying hey why did you redecorate while I was gone, but today he seemed back to normal, happy to roll around in his catnip and eat his dinner.

Pseudo goes to the vet

Last weekend I noticed our chubby Pseudo wasn't eating that well, which is certainly unusual for him.  Somebody who saw him thought he was pregnant!  Pseudo is one of the cats we can pat and Tuesday I was able to just pick him up and plop him in my handy dandy open top carrier and off we went to the vet, meowing all the way.  Well Pseudo had some bad teeth, not surprising for a 10 year old feral cat, so yesterday he had dental surgery.  Luckily all his bloodwork was normal so hopefully this will fix him up.
Priming him for the pickup

On the way to the vet
I stopped in to Sandi's to see her kittens, this is the last of the Haliburton kittens!  Meet Kiwi, Peach and Mango!

Sleepy cat photos

What did I do this week?  Well we found a new colony in Scarborough with six females and 16 yes count them 16 kittens!  We managed to grab four pretty easily but the others have eluded us so far.   On Monday in the heat we were scrambling in the bushes but six week old kittens are fast!  I've got a busy weekend catsitting so Susan is going with Lesley in the morning to try to get more.  Susan will be retiring soon so it's time for her to join the trapping task force.
UPDATE:  Susan and Lesley caught 10 kittens!  Darn, wish I had been there!

Twig, finally out of her cone, I'm calling her blind-ish
Our cats are preparing for the holiday weekend by doing what they do best, sleeping....

Best cat bed ever!

Here at Cherry St Cat Rescue, we all talk about cat beds, which are popular, which are not.  There are the expensive ones of course but they are hit and miss and then if a cat pees in them well it's hard to get that smell out.

I rely a lot on cardboard boxes, inexpensive, popular, and can be easily recycled and replaced when vomited or peed upon.  Michelle though, has found another great one, an empty litter box with a blanket in it!  And look, her foster kittens clearly agree.

Summertime and the livin' is easy (substitute busy for easy)

Remember these cuties that Camille took on to bottle feed?  She rocks, look how well they are doing.

Lesley and I took on a new trapping project on Victoria Park, lots of cats behind a housing complex, we got 7 on Monday, another dozen or so to go, but at least it's a much shorter drive than Haliburton.

And I've been getting ready for our big sale, if you are bopping around the east end this Saturday please join us from 10 - 3, lots of great stuff for sale, to make money for the kitties!

Bunny could give lessons on taking it easy!

And now I see

Here is adorable Twig healing nicely after her surgery, she is a such a sweetheart and for sure has some sight in her remaining eye.
Love this face!
Sandi's foster, aptly named Cherry, had 3 kittens overnight on Sunday, Sandi got up Monday to find them and they all seem to be doing fine!  That will be the last litter from that Haliburton bunch.

Here are the stats for that colony: 20 kittens in foster care, 4 nursing moms still to be spayed who are at fosters, 12 friendly adults in foster care and 15 cats returned to Wonita spayed and neutered, all this in 2 months, pretty amazing what a community can do, and it's certainly been a community effort, huge thanks go out to Sandi, Susan, Michelle, Lesley, Carol, Valerie, Betsy, Megan and Annex Cat Rescue for helping this bunch of cats and Wonita, who would have had more than 60 cats by the end of the summer had we not gotten involved.

Our Haliburton horde status

This Haliburton rescue is pretty epic for us, right now we have 15 adults in foster care and 14 kittens with more to come.  We returned the grumpy moms (spayed of course) this week and picked up another female, the plan was to spay her but oops we discovered she is very pregnant, the vet said she will probably give birth within the week so thankfully Sandi has taken her and another female we hadn't gotten to had kittens in Haliburton this week, so we aren't quite done, but when you are dealing with a colony of 30 with 20 females it takes time.

Hazel, our friendly mom at Susan's, had an odd couple of days of being all growly and even mad at the kittens but she has recovered and yesterday Susan said all 8 were trying to nurse!  It's quite the scene, 8 kittens running amok.

One of the cats we rescued was blind, and the vet had to remove one of her eyes, but he did surgery on the other, and it seems she may have partial sight!  Here she is a week ago after her surgery but I will post some after pictures, she looks much better now, and is such a sweetie, we call her Twig, all the cats have tree names, with 40+ cats to name I needed a theme.

And I had a happy update from Maximus's foster, she called him a dream!

Re-rescued

I'm sure you remember the story of Tig (now Maximus), he is a portlands cat who clearly was friendly, so I trapped him and he went to Michelle's but escaped through an open door and miraculously made his way back to the colony.

I've been feeding him there for the last few weeks, trying to find someone to foster him and thankfully Annex found two lovely women in an apartment (safer we hope) who wanted this handsome guy.

I went this afternoon and called for him and I could hear him meowing from the bushes.  Out he came and I just picked him up and put him in the carrier, no fuss at all.  Once we arrived, he didn't hide at all, went right to his bowl and had a snack and was totally friendly.  I love this cat!  After I left apparently he made himself at home and had a nap.

This cat deserves a wonderful home!  Stay safe and inside my friend Maximus Tig, I will miss seeing you on my rounds but I am so happy for you.
Enjoying the attention

Having a nap

I just picked him up!

At his old home, a much more dangerous one

A happy update

Remember Lexy, the three legged rescue?  Jodi is now fostering her, and I'm hoping it will be a foster failure, here she is in her nice comfy bed, looking very happy and relaxed.

RIP Arrow

Those of you who read my blog regularly know that Arrow hasn't been doing well for a while, her mouth has been swollen and she has been having trouble eating.  It's been heartbreaking watching her meow and struggle to eat and being unable to trap her to get her help.  Yesterday I decided to try again most of the boats are out and it was quieter.

I set up the drop trap and expected just to sit there like every other time, but I couldn't believe my eyes, after ten minutes Arrow went under the trap so I pulled and just like that I had her.  Connie rushed over to help me transfer and I fought rush hour traffic to get her to the vet before close.

When he sedated her this morning, as I suspected, he found a large tumour in her mouth, it was making it so her jaw couldn't open properly, she must have been in so much pain.  Arrow has crossed the rainbow bridge to be with her other feral friends, I'm relieved that she won't die slowly and painfully.

Arrow in better days

It's been seven years this May since I started feeding, I've had 20 cats die or disappear on my watch.  The colony now consists of ten cats, 6 at Hank's and 4 at the dumpsters, but such is the way when all cats are TNRed and age catches up with them.  Doesn't make it any easier emotionally though.
